***My blog from yesterday, October 2nd. Sorry to the people that were worried about me for not messaging them all day...I had no way of letting you know what was going on.***
We have not had internet since about one o'clock today (which is most of the day for us students seeing as most of us didn't get out of bed until about noon) and have been bonding over our pathetic "crisis." It is our one form of communication to our friends and family back home and is in dire need on a Sunday. Our town is DEAD on Sunday's...hence the no internet all day. It won't be fixed until tomorrow because the place is closed...as is everything else practically. The power went out, which turned the internet off and they have to switch it back on manually. So we are hoping it is back in the morning!!!
I went down to Ally's floor (we're in the same building...I'm just in the 3rd floor flat and she's in the 1st floor flat) and the girls on her floor and I ordered a pizza together and talked and ate and complained about our internet situation. At one point one Alessandra came over to ask a question. She's Italian and when she left we all kissed cheeks! Tee hee...I lOVE meeting so many people from different places and experiencing their cultures.
Ally and I were going to book flights and reserve hotels today for our travels but we weren't able to so we decided to get cake (just go with it). When I called the taxi place to have them send a taxi I asked the lady if she knew how late Tesco's was open...since it is Sunday...and she said 8pm which was find since it was only 6:30. When we got to Tesco's and found out it closed at 6pm (it's only open 1-6pm on Sunday!!!) the driver took us to a little store right down the street a ways from where we live...a lot smaller but they ended up having what we needed (a wee bit of a waste of cab fare). We were very impressed with our taxi driver. He was able to place what states we were from by our "accents!" That goes to show that we do have them...just don't hear it. Crazy! I couldn't have told you there was a difference in the was me and Ally talk. We spent a ridiculous amount of time looking at the different pastries because we were craving normal American cake...which is not what they have in Ireland...they have normal Irish cake. After a lot of looking we picked the most normal looking one and came back home. We ate our cake and then all the girls came back with Marco (who is another international student from Germany) and we watched Beerfest because it is based in Germany and Marco had never seen it. Soooo funny to watch it with him....he spent the whole time translating to us the things that were said in German (mainly different forms of the word penis...yes it's THAT kind of movie) and we explained words to him that he wasn't sure of like "keg" and "plum."
Marco told us a joke that is supposedly really funny back in Germany. It goes, "Why don't men have stretch marks?" "Because they don't look good!" Hmmm...we all laughed really hard because it really doesn't even seem like a joke...not really sure just thought I'd share. :)
After the movie we talked for a little bit and then I came back up to my room because by this point it was 11:30pm. Now I'm in bed typing this up on Microsoft Word so that I can post it in the morning before I go to class. Well, hopefully I can because hopefully the internet will be back on by then!!!
