Woke up this morning to do the last couple things I had to wait til this morning to do before heading off to get my parents. Had to take out my last bag of trash and take my blankets and pillow over to the donation bin in the laundry room. These two tasks were made all the harder by the fact that the sidewalks and roads are a solid layer of ice!!! I was taking one inch steps the whole way and STILL slipping all over the place. Glad that it's dead here on weekends so no one was around to witness how great I probably looked...except they would have probably been doing the same.
Called the taxi company last night to say I wanted one at 10:15am this morning....I could have killed him when my computer clock read 10:20 and no taxi yet. And again when it read 10:25 and still no one. And again with it read 10:30 (really...what is the point of calling ahead if they don't show up on time?)...COME ON!!!! When it eventually did get to me I walked carefully out to the taxi and fell flat on my bum trying to open the door. No other option....completely black ice out and he was parked on a bit of an incline so when I tried to stop to open the door my feet couldn't stop. Didn't hurt myself...just got a wet bum for the drive to the airport.
The good thing about the late taxi was that I didn't have to wait at the airport for them and they didn't really have to wait for me either. They were in the process of taking turns going to the bathroom and watching the luggage so it worked out well.
Today was supposed to be check them in at the hotel, move me out and then go to the zoo and our day didn't go exactly as planned. We did go check in and then took a trip over to the city centre for a pick me up. Took a trip into Belfast's impressive two story Starbucks for some goodies and coffee. After that we did go to campus but the residential office was closed when we were there so we didn't get to completely check me out. We did move out all of my things and into the hotel but we're going to need to go back on Tuesday (to busy tomorrow) to drop off my keys in the office. My parents understood why I don't spend much time in the kitchen/common area of my flat as it is not that impressive of a room but they were just as in love with the view out my window as I have grown to be. I will for sure miss that view...
We also walked (shuffled...REALLY slick!!!!) up to campus and I showed them around where I had classes. They got to see just how complicated the building is and how, when you walk in the library, you don't see any books but just tons and tons of computers. Campus is no where near as big as WSU so it really only took a little bit to have a look. Took longer shuffling along than it did actually inside the building!
While we were in my room so I could put away my last few things like put my computer in my backpack and wait for the taxi mom completely passed out on my bed. Dad was sitting next to her talking to me and WHILE he was talking his eyes were rolling back in his head!!! Hahahaha. So much for them saying, "we'll sleep when we're dead." They told me not to leave down time and to plan the days so they could see as much as they can...I think they've now changed their minds.
She is honestly dead to the world in this picture COMPLETELY passed out! Dad dug around in the purse still hooked to her looking for gum and it didn't faze her.
We didn't go to the zoo...mom walked outside here and decided it's too cold for the zoo. Not sure how many times I told her that. But it's probably for the best because then after moving me out and coming back to the room they took about a two hour nap while I finished writing Christmas cards and rearranging my luggage using the empty suitcase they brought me to distribute the weight.
I did come down to the lobby for about 20 min when they were napping and when I went back up they were awake and getting ready to head out. The phone is what woke them. We have a black taxi picking us up in the morning for a day tour and he was calling to confirm. Too funny since I wasn't in the room...mom was half asleep and also couldn't really understand what he was saying so hopefully everything works out! tee hee...
After their about 2 hour nap we headed out for a trip to the pub before dinner. I took them to a pub called the Kitchen Bar because it's close to where we had dinner and they had a pint before we headed up to the restuarant. We had dinner at a place called Frankie and Benny's which is an Italian restaurant. It was so much fun because my parents were cracking up the whole time at how the four of us communicate...which if you think about it is quite funny but we're just used to it. We're all from such different places with such different accents and someone is always confused but we all just have so much fun that it doesn't matter haha. It was so nice to have everyone together one last night. I'm going to miss those three soooo incredibly much I don't think they know. I'm not big at crying in front of people so I held it back (my mom's the one who was tearing up as we walked away haha) but now that I'm writing this I've got a few tears because it's amazing how close you can actually get with people you only know for a few months, and then have to say goodbye having no clue when you'll get to see each other again. I am so glad I made the decision to study abroad but these are some really hard goodbyes. Love you girls...thanks for a beyond amazing semester.
Now we're back in the hotel. We went down to the hotel bar for one last pint for dad and an Bailey's Irish coffee for each my mom and me. We sat down there and had a nice little conversation with one of the ladies that was also in the bar.
They just went up to bed and I'm down in the lobby so that I can write this blog and then go join them! Tomorrow is our black taxi tour that is lasting from 9am until around 4-5pm. He will be taking us on a murals tour of the Troubles here in Belfast that will last about an hour and a half and then we're headed up north to go see the Giant's Causeway and Bushmill's Distillery and whatever else! Then a trip over to the Christmas Market for dinner and some good craic!
LOVE having my parents here!
